During the same week in which Shaq said the Cavs were the best team he has ever been on, the Celtics (more specifically Rasheed) had some words of their own.
Rasheed Wallace to Tom Halzack:
"I think we can get that Bulls record."
Asked if it were actually a reachable goal:
"Oh definitely. Definitely, playing with those three other guys, also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we can definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and?I think we have the defense for it."
So who is right? Shaq has won titles, yet still believes this is the best team he has been on. Then Rasheed thinks this years Celtics could be the best team ever to play the game. Something has to give. Both teams are confident, but the question is, once the season starts, who is going to go out and prove it night in night out? That question can only be answered when the season gets going. From the starters to the bench, and the will for this team to redeem themselves, I think we are looking much better than the Cavs.
As for whether or not we will be better than the Bulls record of 72-10: possible, but do we want to go after that? I would want us to beat that record by chance only. Our goal can not be to have the best regular season record only, because that gets you nothing (just ask the Patriots). Our goal is for next October 28th to see the 2009-2010 banner going up at The Garden. I think chasing records like those can sway your visions of what it takes to get to the final goal. I have faith in Doc that he knows not to pound the starters into the ground to reach that level. Doc realizes what we have to do to reach the next level: get the number 1 spot in the east in the easiest way possible. We need to do just enough to grab that 1st place seed to have home court throughout. We do not have to pummel the rest of the NBA by having a 6 game lead.
However..... If we were to get the record in an economical way, that says alot. That would show the extent to which this team dominates. Do I hope we get it (even if everyone is rested going into playoffs)? Not really. That puts way too much pressure on the team in the playoffs that they are expected to win it all. I love the belief in the teams abilities by Sheed though.
