Boston Celtics vs. New Jersey Nets
October 13, 2009
Celtics 91 Nets 88
The Boston Cetlics may not have played their best game of the postseason during the first 3 quarters against the Nets. This is understandable, the Big Three sat out the whole game, and Sheed and Daniels sat out down the stretch. But even without all these guys, the Celtics impressed me in the fourth quarter. They were down by 14 points at one point in the third quarter and rallied to win the game 91 to 88.
The major contributors to the victory were Rajon Rondo, Rasheed Wallace, and Glen "Big Baby" Davis. Rasheed started out the game looking very good, he looked good on the perimiter and on the block. Sheed knocked down three 3pt field goals in the game and scored 20 points in 25 minutes before a minor ankle injury. Many fans began to worry if Sheed was ok. Doc commented about the injury after the game.
Via Celtics Twitter: "It's just mild, it's nothing bad"
This is good news to hear, it would have been very depressing to have to deal with a significant injury this early in the year.
Big Baby quietly put up 18 points in the game tonight. He showed hustle on both ends of the floor and recieved a few beautiful passes from Rondo down the stretch. He may have also made the game winning block when he rejected Courtney Lee's attempt at a game winner.
The most impressive Celtic tonight had to be Rajon Rondo. He silenced all the doubter that had begun to question if he really improved during the offseason. Rondo's jumpers late in the game were BEAUTIFUL. I loved seeing him pull up and nail the J with the defender giving him all the room in the world. Rondo also had many beautiful drives to the hoop, where he blew past the defense for a easy layup. I forgot to mention something, this was all during the 4th quarter, in clutch moments where he didn't have the big three. He did it mostly on his own with the help of Big Baby.
I was very happy with the end result and determination that the Celtic's showed tonight, it may just be preseason but the way they played tells me WE MEAN BUSINESS.
Thanks to all that were a part of our live chat tonight. We will be back at it tomorrow night at 7pm when the Celtics face off against the new and improved Raptors.
