News broke out today that Celtics forward Glen Davis may be out for a significant amount of time. The Boston Herald released the following:
Celtics forward Glen Davis has suffered a right thumb injury and could be lost to the team for a significant period of time.
Davis underwent X-rays today and will have to get further tests to determine the full extent of the damage. Surgery could be required.
The injury occurred Sunday night between Davis and a former teammate who had flown up from Louisiana. Sources said the Celtic was defending himself at the time.
Great this is just what we needed going into opening day right? For Big Baby's sake as a proffesional I hope that this is true and that he was only defending himself. All of this MMA training during the off-season apparently did not teach him how to protect himself without getting hurt.
My big question is who will take Big Baby's minutes, assuming he's out of the lineup for a long period of time? The big problem with Big Baby going down is the increased minutes KG will most likely have to play. Glen was going to be Kevin's backup this year and we assumed he would take a decent amount of minutes off KG's Knee
. Yes I said it , Kg's Knee, it is still in the back of my mind and I would like to see KG start out this season slow and work his way into the old KG. If Scal was not injured I would assume Scal would be the one to take the minutes from BBD, but Scal's injury also creates a hole in the lineup. Is Shelden ready to step up to the plate and prove his worth in the league? I would sure like to see him get his chance, but I'm not sure if I want to see him playing a lot of minutes opening night against the Cavs.
According to the Herald both the Celtics and Davis are very upset about this situation. I can't say I feel any different, this weird situation creates a hole in our lineup going into the opening of the regular season.
GreenBanner18 Opinion:
I have said all along and we know how it goes, the road to the championship will not be easy. Crap will happen along the way. I just didn't think it would be this soon. The big thing is overcoming the challenges that are provided instead of dwelling in them. The C's are a veteran club who I can see easily making it past this and succeeding in the end. It is a huge blow to a team who was rolling through the preseason- but, just an extra hurdle in the way of the finish line.
