Boston Celtics @ Cleveland Cavaliers

October 27, 2009

Quicken Loans Arena

Cleveland, OH

Final Score

Celtics 95 Cavaliers 89

The night did not start out the way Celtics fans would have liked. The Cavs looked like they were going to run all over us going up by twelve before Doc was forced to call a timeout. The defense looked sloppy, and the offense wasn't flowing at all. After the timeout the Celtics seemed to come out with a little more fire beneath them. Rasheed Wallace, Marquis, and Shelden Williams came in and did a tremendous job off the bench bringing the Celtics back into the game. That along with great play by the starters throughout the game led to a convincing 95-89 victory over the other Eastern Conference power-house Cleveland Cavaliers.

Paul Pierce led the troops down the stretch totaling 23 points while making some HUGE buckets down the stretch to ice the game and silence "The Q". He was in one of his "get the ball to Paul Pierce and get the hell out of the way" moments. I mentioned in the earlier gameday post that the game may come down to the Lebron vs. Pierce matchup. But this was not like game seven of the ECF when the two traded baskets all game, Lebron did his scoring 38 points thing, while Pierce helped his team with 23 points and a victory.

Rasheed Wallace also shot better than I would have expected him too after the six preseason games. In the preseason Rasheed had a game or two where he was on fire, but he also had some question mark moments. Tonight Rasheed came to play, he did just what Doc expected of him, he spread the floor on offense, hit some big three's, and helped the team defensively. Sheed ended up with 12 points on 5 for 9 shooting (3-6 from 3).

Shelden Williams also impressed me, although his numbers aren't huge. He gave us twelve minutes of great defense and hustle in times when KG needed rest, and we needed to outplay the Cavs. Shelden got to the line twice and made all four free throws in his first NBA nationally covered game.

Overall great effort by the C's, they had winning on their mind and went out and proved it. They wanted to show the rest of the league that they are the Celtics of 2007-2008 and that they are the true BEAST OF THE EAST!!!!!
