Before the NBA trade deadline on February 18th there were rumors flying every where about the possible acquisition of New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson. At first the reported deal had J.R Giddens and Eddie House headed to the "Big Apple" for only Nate Robinson. As more details were reported there were two more names thrown into the deal, those being Bill Walker and Marcus Landry.
Unless you are an NBA genius you probably said the same thing as I did when I heard the name Marcus Landry. Tell me if I'm wrong but I would put close to my life saving on the line and guess that you said WHO? This is what I did, and to be 100% honest I had to search the guy's name on Google.
After doing some research I found that he was an undrafted free agent on the Knicks squad, and that he played a solid college basketball career at Wisconsin. During his tenure at Wisconsin Landry was named to the All-Big Ten Second team during both his junior and senior year.
As you could have probably guessed, Landry is not going to be a player who is going to affect the Celtics championship chances in any way. Since his arrival in Boston he has seen three minutes of playing time in a February 25th contest against Cleveland, and his stat line included zeros across the board. To put it in simple words, Landry will only be a benchwarmer this season in Boston.
Today the Celtics organization took this in consideration and assigned Marcus to the Maine Red Claws (NBDL). Landry is now the fourth member of the Celtics to see playing time for the Red Claws; he follows the footsteps of Bill Walker, Lester Hudson, and J.R Giddens.
Moving Marcus down to the D-League is the best thing for his future. During his stay with Maine he will record solid minutes, while also being able to evaluate his own game against solid competition. He will see his first minutes as a Red Claw tomorrow in Portland at 5pm against Sioux Falls.
