For his first game on the team, I was wrong. Finley had a much greater impact than I expected. He came right in, came around a screen and hit a jumper. Then a minute or so later, he hit a three with a hand in his face. Okay, so maybe the man can still play.
Doc Rivers just took him and threw him in the game with very little practice on the schemes the team had. Unlike most players, Finley came right out firing. As we remember, Nate Robinson was a little tentative, as was Stephon Marbury last season directly after joining. It only comes with joining a new team, because they don't want to screw anything up.
Well Finley sure didn't screw anything up too much in his 8 minutes off the bench in last nights game against the Bucks. He finished with 5 points which is more than I thought he would have for the rest of the year. If he continues to play like he did in his limited minutes last night, this leaves the door open for Doc to make many strategic changes in the playoffs. He can put in Tony Allen to make hustle plays and get to the rim, or have a shooter on the floor in Finley.
It is only one game, so it really means nothing. However, it gave us a little insight to the fact that, maybe he can help the team out. I never thought he would hurt the team, but I never really saw him as an improvement either. We will have to wait and see what the rest of the season provides, but he passed the first look test.
