Rondo - Master of the "Just What We Want" to "What a Shot" Shot

Rajon Rondo #9 Of The Boston Celtics Takes The Shot Against Quentin Richardson Of The Miami Heat In Game One Of The

I'm sure you know what I am talking about. If you are anything like me, when Rondo gets the ball around the 3 point line with under 8 seconds on the shot clock you think to yourself, "Here we go again". You know just what he is going to do and 90% of the time your thoughts are accurate.

Rondo will take a few steps back, gather himself and do a few cross over dribbles just to get the defender thinking (because they have to respect his ability to drive). At this point, after watching what he does all season, I know for sure he isn't driving to the basket. No, he is setting himself up for a three. So he pulls up, with a hand in his face (at which point you say, "Just what we want right now"), and rattles in the 3 as the shot clock goes off (at which point you say, "What a shot!!" while mumbling under your breath, "Just don't do it again")

I say the same thing every time, yet what seems to be 75% of the time, he makes it. It is unbelievable. He can make 3 after 3 after 3 after 3 in HORSE. He can make 3 after 3 after 3 with the shot clock going off and a hand in his face; but he can't make a damn free throw or a wide open 3 with no one around him.

I just think it is funny and it is great when it happens. This shot for him is very similar to every shot Eddie House took while he was a Celtic. Eddie would shoot so many off balanced, whacky three point attempts that made you puzzled while it was in the air and thankful when  you saw it going through the hoop. I guess it just goes to show when these guys let their pure athletic talent take over, they are machines, yet when they have to sit there and think about it, it makes it like you or I just out in the back yard throwing up bricks... (Or maybe that is just me)
