CELTICS 92 MAGIC 88
Celtics Lead Series 1-0
If the Magic really thought they could coast through the playoffs, they were in for one heck of a reality check. Not only did the C's come out and smack the Magic in the face, they roundhouse kicked them right across the kisser. Orlando has yet to play a team that has the talent to compete with them, and won't give up.
After getting out to a good size lead, the Celtics kept taking shots from the Magic and countering with haymakers of their own. Every time you thought the Celtics would fold (or the Magic thought the C's would fold), they pushed the lead right back up to where it was before the Orlando run.
Poise, was the name of the game until midway through the fourth. Like I said, the Celtics refused to crumble under the pressure the Magic were pushing on them. Boston had a lead of 9 points coming out of the half, and quickly that got down to 3. No more than a few minutes later, the C's pushed it right back up to 15. That was the theme as the game went on.
A late run by the Magic was too little too late. The Celtics tried to run the clock out instead of playing their game for about the last 6 minutes. That never leads to good results, but how the team played for 80% of the game is inspiring.
Game 2 will be Tuesday night at 8:30 on ESPN.
