Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few years, you have heard about the scandal that shook up the NBA. Tim Donaghy is a name that generates a mixture of emotions for any fan of the NBA. Whether you believe what he says today, or find him to be a non-reliable source due to his past is a topic for another day. Donaghy was involved in Sports Betting where he claimed he took his knowledge of the NBA and their officials, and used it to make accurate sports bets.
One thing he mentioned to Nick of North Station Sports and while appearing on the Celtics Late Night Show came as somewhat of a shock to Celtics fans. He made the statement that there was no way the NBA would allow for the Celtics to win the series against the Cavs. He made the assumption that the leagues ideal Finals matchup would be one that included both the Lakers and the Cavs.
Although we as fans understand that this may be what the league is looking for, when it came from his mouth it had a little more meaning. Maybe that was the case? Maybe the Celtics could be the best team in the league, but when it comes down to it, there is nothing they can do about it?
Well this all proved to be completely wrong as the Celtics closed the series out in 6 games. Despite the fact that the officiating was sketchy at best during key points, the C's still managed to pull through in very commanding fashion.
Does this wrong prediction by the former referee show he may have some kinks in his armor? I will leave that for you to ponder, but for now, I am just glad the guys in green are still rolling through the playoffs.
