Sunday night's NBA Finals game drew a very impressive 10.9 overnight rating, up 10 percent from the 9.9 rating game 2 of the 2009 Finals drew. The 10.9 overnight rating is the highest rating for a NBA Finals game two since 2004, when the Shaq/Kobe/Malone/Payton Lakers faced the Detroit Pistons in the Finals.
As I did for Game 1, the average viewship over the recorded half hour intervals that Game 2 was on air was 12.3 million compared to the 11.2 million average for Game 1.
How did these numbers compare to the Blackhawks vs. Flyers game that was on at the same time?
To make it simple, the period of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals that grabbed the most viewers didn't even reach the amount of viewers that tuned into NBA Countdown (8.2 million for NBA countdown compared to 6.4 million at the NHL games highest mark).
As expected these Finals, heck any NBA Finals, are trouncing the NHL in ratings, and this series is grabbing a lot of peoples attention as it should.
