Points Per Game: 1.5
Grade: C-
Early last week I started our 2009-2010 report card series by doing a report card for the entire 2009-2010 Boston Celtics team. As I noted in that post, the next person up on the list is "Token White Guy" Brian Scalabrine. Scal is most known for what many like to call "mocking chants" of "Scal-A-Brine" late in the fourth quarter of games at the TD Garden.
This season was right on par with what we have expected from Brian Scalabrine during his time with the Celtics. He provided some very important minutes at times, made a few late game three point shots, and provided us with many humorous things to write about, like the spray tan he received during the season or his 3am phone call to The Sports Hub.
This season Scal got the call to start in three starts and like always he didn't disappoint in those starts. When Kevin Garnett was injured during the season Scal stepped up big and brought his high basketball IQ to the court. His numbers may not blow you away, but he did exactly what Doc Rivers wanted him to do.
Shooting wise, Scal didn't do as well as he has in previous seasons with the C's. He shot 32.7% (16-49) from behind the arc; that's good for his second lowest percentage as a member of the Celtics. For someone that's supposed to come in and hit wide open corner three's that's not a very impressive number. That lower's his grade from what would have been an average C to a C-.
Future in Green:
As of right now Scal's future in Boston is unknown. He will enter free agency and there a doubts that the C's will spend money on Scal again. With the Celtics drafting Harangody in the NBA Draft the joke is out that the C's have replaced their "Token White Guy".
